Guide on Creating Inbound Links to your Website

Google and Yahoo both place emphasis on inbound links when ranking websites in their search engines. Inbound links refer to links from external sites that point to your websites. The links that points to your websites must be from a relevant website that dealt on the same subject as your website.

Inbound links are important in Google because Google stores the data of a page. Google perform two types of indexes which are the short index and long index. The short index stores data such as the title of a page, and the anchor text of an external link. For example, if a website links to a Caribbean resorts website and uses the anchor text Caribbean resort hotels, Google will store the words Caribbean, resort, and hotels in the short index just as though these words appear in the content of your page. If there are five hundred websites pointing to your website and uses the same anchor text Caribbean resort hotels, the short index of your website will contain a lot of entries for those keywords. The long index includes the words of the content in the website.

When a user performs a query on Google search engine, it will attempt to obtain the search results from the short index. If the short index has not enough results, it will refer to the long index. This means that Google will rank a site on the top search engine result if it has a lot of relevant links that points to its website regardless of the content in the website.
